Hosting a 75th Birthday Tea Party

If you are trying to figure out the perfect 75th birthday tea party theme, then you definitely need to take a look at some basic tea party tips before you get started. There are a few things that you need to know about tea parties before you actually start having some of your own because you need to make sure that do everything right for this kind of party.

By learning about a few different tea party concepts, you should be able to put together your own tea party for a birthday event that will turn out to be a huge success.

Let’s take a look at some of the basic tips that you need to keep in mind while you are putting together your own tea party for you and your guests.

Venue

Tea parties are one of those flexible events that can be held either indoors or outdoors. You can easily host a party at home or you can choose a public setting.

Most towns have a tea parlor or restaurant that serves afternoon tea that you could consider reserving for the event. This is probably the easiest way to host a tea party, as they will provide the food and drinks, and will generally be appropriately decorated. This option will be a bit more expensive, but it may well be worth it for the convenience!

If you’re holding the party during the spring or summer, you might consider having it outdoors in the garden. If you have a backyard that you enjoy entertaining in, that’s a wonderful place. Otherwise see if there are any public gardens or parks that you can rent or reserve for the party. Remember, you can always decorate the table with plenty of flowers even if the chosen setting isn’t in full bloom.

For an indoor party, consider whether you want to have it in your house. You can choose to host it in your dining room, which probably adds a touch of elegance. For a more casual gathering, host the party in your living room.

Time of Day

These affairs are usually held in the afternoon. I’d recommend starting sometime between 1:00 – 3:00. Plan for about 2 hours so that you can enjoy a leisurely get-together.

Beverages

One tip that many people overlook when it comes to a birthday tea party celebration is that you may want to start with an alcoholic beverage. Since this is a special occasion that is usually held in the earlier part of the day, you might want to offer champagne or mimosas. A girly cocktail would be a fun idea!

You will also want to offer water. Consider having glass water pitchers with fruit, such as lemon slices, available. Lemonade is also a popular choice to offer at tea parties.

You should stay away from the regular tea that you pick up at the grocery store once per week when you are throwing one of these tea parties. It’s important to find something unique and imported when it comes to picking out the tea for this kind of party.

You should try to make sure that there are plenty of options when it comes to different types of tea, and you also need to make sure that your guests can try something new when they come to this party.

Decorations

You need to make a tea party as fancy as possible in most cases, and that is definitely the case when it comes to someone’s 75th birthday party. Fine china is a requirement for this kind of tea party, so you may want to hold back on planning the party until you have some actual fine china in your possession. If you do not have any elegant or expensive dishes, then you will probably need to get help from one of the other guests when it comes to making sure that this is a high-class affair.

Flowers are a must-have at a tea party, and can be used to make delightful centerpieces. I’ve posted some of my favorites above; Pinterest is always a great place to look for centerpiece ideas.

You might also want to consider a banner or lanterns.

Food

The food at a tea party is just as important as the tea. If you are going to be throwing a tea party, then you need to make sure that there are plenty of finger foods to go around. The best type of finger foods that you definitely need to have at the party are small sandwiches.

You can make regular sandwiches in the kitchen and then cut them up into four triangles to create the perfect finger sandwiches for the party. You should also think about bringing out any of the guest of honor’s favorite appetizers since this this party is for her birthday.

Think colorful and cute when planning your tea party food. Macarons, scones, and mini cupcakes are fun, delicious – and make wonderful decorations as well.

Party Favors

While not required, party favors add a touch of flair to any celebration. Consider sending your guests home with their own tea cup, which you can fill with flowers, candles, or tea bags. A small box of cookies or a cupcake is also a thoughtful party favor.
